Why visit Sar Shalom?

When it comes to “churches” there are many options available – especially in an area like North Texas. The list of names, locations, denominations, alignments, and statements of faith seems endless, and every website promises “we’re the right place for you and your family.”

However, when searching for a new place of worship or seeking to take your walk of faith to the next level, you want real answers to real questions and that’s what this page is for. Why should you visit Sar Shalom? That’s a great question – and here are the answers …

Because you’re ready to grow!

Throughout America, the “seeker sensitive” church format has brought many new faces through the doors. On the other hand, it has also left many believers – both young and old – with a very legitimate and unanswered question: “Okay I’m saved; I understand that. Now what do I do?”

If you find yourself feeling a little empty after most sermons and bible studies, you’re not alone. Believers everywhere are longing for a deeper walk that moves past the spiritual milk and into real spiritual meat – but like you, they have no idea where to turn. This is where Sar Shalom comes in. Every week we dive headfirst into the scriptures, and dig deeply into the Hebraic roots of our faith to learn what it truly means to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior”!

We are called to be different!

Visit 10 churches, on 10 Sundays, in 10 cities.  The buildings and names may change, but the banners, the coffee bars, the songs, and the sermons start blending together all too soon. In terms of real substance there’s often very little to differentiate most churches these days – either from the world, or from one another.

For far too long now the “church” has tried desperately to appear “relevant” by molding itself into an image the world will accept. But this is not, and will never be, G-d’s will for His chosen people.

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Rom.12:2)

So what is G-d’s will? G-d calls His people to be different; to follow His ways not the world’s ways; and to never compromise on His truth from scripture. In that regard, Sar Shalom is quite unique, and we are proud of our distinction because “we are not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of G-d for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.” (Rom.1:16)

Sar Shalom is an observant Jewish synagogue that boldly proclaims Yeshua (Christ) the Messiah. Rather obviously, that makes us a little different. We sound a little different; we look a little different; and we certainly live a little different. So if you’re looking for something “a little different” then you may find exactly what you’re looking for at Sar Shalom!

We preach the Word of G-d … ALL of it!

In a world where preaching is personality and sermons are self-help messages, many believers are wondering “where’s the beef”? At Sar Shalom there are no watered down sermons or milk-toast messages – only the full counsel of G-d declared with passion, purpose, and absolute integrity!

Furthermore, we hold that the ‘old and new testaments’ do not represent a foundational shift in G-d, or alteration of his plans and purposes for mankind. Rather, we accept the Word of G-d found in scripture as fully unified, entirely inseparable, and completely free of conflict or contradiction. At Sar Shalom, we proclaim ALL scripture fearlessly and without reservation!

We walk obediently in Torah!

“What’s with the Torah and synagogue stuff?”
“I thought the old testament was ancient history?”
“Didn’t Jesus fulfill the law?”
“Besides, wasn’t all that kosher business for health reasons?”

The answers to these questions – and many more – will surprise you, and definitely challenge you to begin truly walking out your faith the way G-d intended from the very beginning!

At Sar Shalom you’ll find a laser-like focus on teaching and living the truth from scripture in a way that is both understandable and inspiring. And along the way, you’ll finally smooth out those theological ‘road bumps’ (i.e. apparent contradictions and inconsistencies in scripture) that many believers encounter as they grow, but do not take the time to work through and understand.

Did Sha’ul (Paul) really preach against the law? What did Yeshua (Jesus) really mean when he said he came to “fulfill the law”? If G-d says His Word is eternal, why aren’t more people walking in full obedience to it today? Well, we do! So join us this coming Shabbat (Saturday) and start getting the answers you’ve been looking for, as you discover the beauty and perfection of Torah in your daily walk of faith.

We explain and embrace the Hebraic Roots of Judea-Christian faith!

It has been said, “Judaism is incomplete without Messiah, and Christianity is incomprehensible without Judaism.” We completely agree.

One can never fully understand scripture, or Messiah as the true and Living Word of G-d, apart from its thoroughly Jewish foundations. Like a river continually flowing under thick winter ice, the Hebrew Roots of Christianity is far from dead. Rather it’s an amazingly vibrant world, teaming with life and truth, just waiting to be discovered.

Think about it. We call on and worship the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. We proclaim the Jewish messiah. Everything in scripture happens within the context of the Hebrew people. Is it any wonder that restoring the original Hebrew perspective to scripture reveals meaning, context, and application that simply cannot be seen and understood from a purely post-modern, western perspective?

Have you ever thought to yourself, “I wonder what this verse said in the original Hebrew”? We did too! And as you begin to understand the foundational Hebraic and Aramaic words, phrases, and concepts from scripture, your knowledge and faith will burst forward – just as ours has! (Interested in diving even deeper into the ancient language of scripture? We even offer Hebrew classes!)

At Sar Shalom we break through the thick icy barriers that have hidden many truths in scripture and separated ‘law from grace’, ‘faith from works’, and ‘Israel from the church’ for a very long time. Do you feel like your walk of faith is stuck in neutral, or that you’ve reached a spiritual plateau? Again, you’re not alone and there IS a clear and solid biblical path forward available to you. Come along with us on this amazing journey of discovery into the foundations of your faith!

Truly relevant messages from the pulpit!

‘Relevant’ has become popular buzzword in faith-based marketing campaigns, and many churches go to great lengths to attract attention under this banner – sometimes even to the point of compromising the very faith they proclaim. Unfortunately, this ‘six flags over Jesus’ approach to ministry often turns the Word of G-d into mere sound bites, as X-boxes and road trips define ‘church’ in terms of entertainment value rather than the absolute truth from scripture.

At Sar Shalom, we believe the Word of G-d is completely and eternally relevant exactly as it is; and we boldly proclaim scriptural truths without compromise, and without attempting to conform to a modern culture of relativism and subjectivity. G-d says it, we accept it, and that pretty much settles it. But how do we DO it? Ahah! That is real question of “relevancy” and precisely what we strive to address each week at Sar Shalom.

Joyous worship in song and dance!

Hold up… Worship in song and dance? At a Jewish Synagogue? Absolutely!

G-d ordained music for the temple, and even dedicated an entire group of His servants to music – the Levi’im! David was a man after G-d’s on heart, and he danced joyously before the Lord – why shouldn’t we? Have you ever cheered on your favorite team, or jumped to your feet to applaud a great performance? Did you feel self conscious or embarrassed? Of course not. You were simply expressing your joy and appreciation along with those who shared your belief and convictions; and that’s exactly what you’ll find at Sar Shalom. Does this mean we’re swinging from the chandeliers? Absolutely not. We always maintain dignity and humility in the presence of G-d…as we stand, sing, dance, and joyously shout our praises to the Lord, our rock, our savior, our deliverer, and our G-d!

A true family atmosphere!

Many congregations claim to be “family friendly” but what does that mean? At Sar Shalom, we’re not just family friendly – we ARE family!

Each week during service all the children come forward for a special time of prayer dedicated just for them. Each week after service we share a kosher meal together (dairy / parve) and we always have enough food for guests! While young child care is always available during Shabbat services, families stay together once a month for our Rosh Chodesh service. So whether you’re a family of one, or a family of ten, Sar Shalom might be the extended mishpacha (family) you’ve been praying for.

A like-minded fellowship of iron sharpening iron!

At Sar Shalom, we don’t rely on the paid leaders to do all the work. Our teaching and expertise goes well beyond the pulpit with many knowledgeable and experienced members and lay leaders who have dug deeply into the Judea-Christian faith for a very long time – and continue to do so everyday. As a visitor, you’ll probably have many questions; and we look forward to discussing the answers with you. In fact, many of the best conversations happen during the oneg (luncheons) where we all have plenty of time to ask and answer questions with patience, love and mutual edification.  In all matters we strive to be like the Bereans who “were of more noble character…and received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Sha’ul (Paul) said was true.”

Make plans to join us this week!

As the saying goes, there’s no substitute for experience; so we cordially invite you to join us and experience Sar Shalom Synagogue this coming Shabbat (Saturday) at 10:30am.
