Senior Leadership

Rabbi Mordecai Griffin

Rabbi Mordecai Griffin is the Senior Rabbi at Sar Shalom and has been actively involved in ministry and teaching the Jewish faith for over fifteen years.

Rabbi Mordecai came to faith in Christ shortly after serving his country as a Marine. Embracing his faith with the passion and determination of a soldier, he immersed himself in study and service to the church. After several years and many roles, he became an ordained minister and soon entered full time ministry.

From the very beginning and throughout his years of service, G-d has been drawing Rabbi Mordecai to the Jewish faith and Jewish people. What began as academic interest in the Hebraic roots of the Christian faith, quickly grew to an insatiable hunger for knowledge of Torah and in-depth studies of Jewish theology, Jewish history, Jewish lifestyle, and Rabbinic thought. In 2011, G-d brought the Griffins fully into the Jewish faith as believers in Messiah, and directed them to establish Sar Shalom as something entirely new: an observant Jewish synagogue, fully centered on Messiah.

Rabbi’s personal mission is to live and proclaim the true gospel: salvation by faith in Messiah Yeshua the living Word, guided by Torah as the path of righteousness for every believer, and empowered for ministry by the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit.) May the fire of HaShem’s Spirit be united with the water of His Word, and poured out upon the nations through faith in his Son, to raise true disciples of our faith. Amein and Amein!

Rabbi Mordecai and Rebbetzin Shoshana are both native Texans, and each enjoy a rich Jewish heritage that originates from Ashkenazi communities in France and Germany, respectively. They have been married for seventeen years and have four grown children.

Zaken Rayford Hopson (Elder)

rayford-2In 2005, Rayford and Argie Hopson began learning about Torah and understanding the written Word from the perspective of Hebrew. A clearer perspective came in 2007. Rayford finds the Torah and studying Hebraic thought and practices of Torah a wonderful, refreshing relief, knowing that biblical thought cannot be correct without that perspective. He is a Dayan of the Sar Shalom Beit Din (Judge of the Court/Elder). He enjoys not only studying Torah, but teaching it to individuals who recognize something is missing from their walk of faith. Many continue to ask, “What is Torah? Why is it important? Why should I…?” Helping individuals find scriptural answers to these questions is his greatest joy. Rayford also enjoys classical music, especially the Edwardian period, and classic movies from 1929 to 1956. Argie is professor of education at a local college and an ordained minister. Rayford and Argie have been married twenty-five years and have one daughter.

Mordechai (Kevin) Lynam, Gabbai & Music Director

Kevin came to faith as a child, but lacking a solid foundation of Torah he fell away as a teenager. Facing the prospect of marriage after college, Kevin and his fiance agreed the only hope for a lasting marriage and family legacy was a renewed commitment to G-d and their walk of faith. For the next 20 years, the two served in teaching and leadership roles in multiple denominations and states. However, they were increasingly discouraged with the “seeker sensitive” church format which glorified subjectivity and lacked any real scriptural accountability. On the verge of losing hope of ever finding a “real church” they were invited to Sar Shalom and found an oasis of life in the desert of modern “Churchianity.” Here was a fellowship of like minded believers who truly sought G-d with their heart, mind, soul, and strength; and embraced the solid foundational truths of  scripture without compromise or excuses. The family joined Sar Shalom in late 2011, and joined the praise team in August 2012.
